how wireless charging works ?

So today we are going to talk about wireless charging and we will show you how it works.
Most of the wireless chargers use Magnetic induction and magnetic resonance. The device will be placed on a surface and will be automatically charged without any cable connected.

👉How Wireless Charging Works

Of course, wireless charging is not truly wireless. Your smartphone, tablet, headphones, smartwatch doesn’t need to be plugged in the charger but the wireless charger itself needs to be plugged.

At the time iPhone 5 was released without the feature of wireless charging it was found competing Android and Windows phones at that time. Apple’s Phil Schiller argued that “having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated”.

After five years, Apple has included a support for wireless charging using the Qi open standard. Usually, Wireless chargers used magnetic induction. They use the magnetism to transmit the energy.

First, keep your device on the wireless charger. The current comes from the wall power which moves through the wire in the wireless charger, it creates a magnetic field. A Magnetic field creates a current in the coil inside the device sitting on the wireless charger.
Magnetic energy is converted into electrical energy, and it is used to charge the battery. To support the wireless charger, the devices must have the proper hardware in them —a device without the necessary coil can’t charge wirelessly.
While the Qi standard was originally limited to magnetic induction, it now also supports magnetic resonance. It works same, but the device can be up to 45mm away from the wireless charger’s surface rather than touching it directly.

This is less effective than magnetic induction. There are few advantages like a wireless charger could be kept under a table and you can place a device on the table to charge it. You can place a couple of devices on a single charging pad and all of them can be charged at once.
When not actively charging, the Qi charger doesn’t consume the maximum amount of power. Instead, it uses a smaller amount of power and, when it detects a device is placed on the charger, it increases the energy output.

👉How You Can Use Wireless Charging Today

Using wireless charging is quite simple. If you want to charge your phone then you need a phone which supports wireless charging and a compatible wireless charging mat to keep your phone on it. You can even buy adapters to add wireless charging support to phones.

These are the Popular smartphones that support wireless charging:
  • Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S8 Active, S7, S7 Edge, S7 Active
  • LG G6 (US and Canada versions only) and LG V30
  • Motorola Moto Z, Moto Z Play, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play (with wireless charging mod only)
In recent years, the Android manufacturers have been increasing abandoning wireless charging. Only Samsung has kept it on its recent high-end phones. Google does not give the wireless charging feature in its Pixel Smartphone, though earlier the Nexus phones had this feature. As Apple has given the Qi Standard, once again wireless charging can become common on Android devices.

If you want your phone to support wireless charging and it doesn’t support then you can add support for wireless charging. With a special phone case or wireless charging adapter. The phone case or adapter can be stick on the back of your phone and then plug into its power port.

When you have a phone or an adapter which supports wireless charging, get the wireless charger which is compatible with it. Most of the phones will need a Qi Charger. Qi certified wireless charger should work with any Qi-certified device.

BENEFITS OF WIRELESS CHARGING:

  • A reduced cost associated with maintaining mechanical connectors. For example: Rotating electrical connectors like Slip Rings
  • Safe powering or charging devices that need to remain sterile or hermetically sealed (waterproof)
  • Prevent corrosion due to elements such as oxygen and water
  • Eliminate sparks and debris associated with wired contacts

You can buy wireless charger online on websites like Amazon.com or electronics stores. You just need to plug in the charging pad and keep your phone on it to get it charged. It will just work, as long as your device and the charger support the same standard.
In future, wireless chargers will be common everywhere. It will be placed in public locations, where you just have to keep your device on the table to get it charged.
